Lions of Oklahoma State Conventions

The Lions of Oklahoma have various conventions to encourage and support the local Lions Clubs. In Oklahoma we have our State Annual Convention along with a District Convention for each District. Currently the District Conventions are listed on their individual pages under the MD3 Lions of Oklahoma tab above.


The Oklahoma State Annual Lions Convention will be held in Wewoka at the St Crispin's Episcopal Conference Center. More Later...

The Convention will be on APRIL 5th & 6th, 2024! at the St. Crispin’s Conference Center in Wewoka, OK. (address below).

So, make plans to come, relax, and enjoy a fun filled weekend in this beautiful tranquil setting, away from the hustle and bustle of our everyday lives. Note: Our Annual Board Meetings will be held on Friday afternoon this year.

Lions of Oklahoma Awards

The Lions of Oklahoma have a long History of acknowledging those Lions that have gone above and beyond the call "To Serve".

These are the following awards and qualifications. If you know someone special who is deserving of one of these, please contact your District Governor by January 15th of the current year to nominate them.


District Lion of the Year Guidelines for selection of the District Lion of the Year shall be: Must be an active member in good standing. Must be nominated by his/her club or zone chair. Must have performed outstanding service beyond the club level during the current year. Nominations for District Lion of the Year must be received by the District Governor 45 days prior to the State Convention. All nominations should include a photo of the individual member nominated. Past District Lion of the Year Winners may not be selected again. A Lion who moves into the district and has received the award in another district may be eligible in District 3-SW. This recipient must be a Lion in good standing, from a club of good standing with district, state, and International.


PIP Dr. Robert "Bob" McCullough Meritorious Service Award will be presented to a Lion who has been a Lion for at least ten years and displayed meritorious service in the performance of Lionistic activities. The following are guidelines for receiving this award. Each District Governor may submit one nominee from recommendations presented to them. If a Lion has been nominated one year and does not receive the award, that Lion can be nominated again in the following year. All past recipients of this award will vote on the nominations for the current year. The last recipient of this award will serve as Chairperson of the Selection Committee. The Selection Committee Chairperson will tabulate the votes and submit the recipient's name to the State Office by the first of the month preceding the State Convention. The winner will be announced at the State Convention.


Leo of the Year. The District Governor will select the District Leo of the Year from nominations received by Leo-sponsoring Lions Clubs in the District. Nominations for District Leo of the year must be received by the District Governor 45 days prior to the State Convention.


Humanitarian Service Award-Individual may be presented each year by the Lions of Oklahoma to a non-Lion individual and the Humanitarian Service Award-Organization may be presented each year by the Lions of Oklahoma to a non-Lion organization. Nominees will be selected by the Council of Governors. Each Governor may make one nomination in each category. The nominees will have exhibited outstanding service to the community, state, nation or world. This service should have a connection to Lionism. Nominations must be submitted to the Council Chairperson by February 15. The Council of Governors must decide that the recipients are worthy of recognition. The recipients' names are to be submitted to the State Office by the first of the month preceding the State Convention. The presentation will be made at the State Convention. Any individual or organization may receive this award only one time.


District SW DeRoy Skinner Rookie of the Year Award This is a District level award to recognize a Lion who has advanced the development and progress of Lionism in a tangible and meaningful way. This award will be given at the District Convention to one Lion. The purpose of this award will be to provide a means for Lions Clubs to recognize one member of their club for his/her outstanding efforts in Lionism. Eligible Nominees: All active Lion members that have been a member for not more than five (5) years at the beginning of the current Lion’s year. This recipient must be a Lion in good standing, from a club of good standing with district, state, and International. The method of selection of the local nominee will be determined by the club. The club president may wish to appoint a special committee to select a nominee or may ask their board of directors to carry out the responsibility.


District SW PID Pat Shurley Outstanding Lion Service Award This is a District level award to recognize a member that serves Lions both in their home club and in various other areas such as zone, region, district, state, and International. Eligible Nominees: All active Lion members that have been a member for more than five (5) years and less than 20 years at the beginning of the current Lion’s year. This recipient must be a Lion in good standing, from a club of good standing with district, state, and International. 


District SW PID George Hazelbaker Lifetime Service Award This is a District level award to recognize a long time Lion who has advanced the development and progress of Lionism in a tangible and meaningful way. The awardees must have a minimum of twenty (20) years of service as a Lion. The Recipient must have contributed to his or her club, district and state to further the goals of Lionism. Though some Lions may be only partially active due to ill health or other unavoidable problems, they would still be considered for the award. The George Hazelbaker Lifetime Service Award may be awarded only once.


District 3NW PID R. Hal Long Rookie of the Year Award

This is a Distinctive award to recognize a Lion who has advanced the development and progress of Lionism in a tangible and meaningful way. This award will be given at the NW District Convention to one Lion. The purpose of the award will be to provide a means for Lions clubs to recognize one member of their club for his/her outstanding efforts in Lionism. Eligible Nominees: All active Lion members that have been a member for not more than 5 years. Nominee must be in good standing with his/her club. Nominations shall be submitted to the District Governor at least 30 days prior to the District Convention.


District 3NW PCC Carobelle Carson Women in Lions Award

This is a Distinctive award to recognize Women in Lions. This award honors Past Council Chair Carobelle Carson who was one of the first female District Governors in Oklahoma. She was a shining example to other women and encouraged Lions leadership and protocol. Each year, Oklahoma Lions honor a woman in her name who has advanced the development and progress of Women in Lionism in a tangible and meaningful way.  She should be active in her club, someone who shows leadership, kindness, and is willing to step up with needed to further the goals of Ok Lions. She should be someone who knows the importance of the role of women and is willing to guide other women to grow in their service as a Lion. This award is presented at the NW District Convention to one Lion.
