Nancy Wood became a Lion on July 28, 2017, and has hit the ground running since. She joined as a member of the Wilburton Lions Club. She has served as President of the Club and was awarded the Lion of the Year for her Wilburton Club. Nancy has served twice as 3-E Zone Chair and twice as District Convention Chair. She was awarded the Rookie of the Year in 2022 for District E.
On the Lions State Level, Nancy served on the State Convention Planning Committee for six (6) years and served as Secretary the last year. She has served on several Lions state boards including the Oklahoma Lions Eye Bank.
She has attended three International Conventions, one in Chicago Illinois, Las Vegas Nevada, and in 2025, Orlando Florida. Nancy has not slowed down as she attended five (5) Lions Leadership forums. One in Portland 2017, Columbus 2018, and Spokane Washington in 2019. Spokane is where she received her master’s degree from Lions University. She also attended the forum in Des Moines, Iowa in 2021 and Reno, Nevada in 2023. She was still hungry for more so, she attended Great Plans Lions Leadership Institute to learn more about Lionism and how to help lead other Lions.
Nancy has been instrumental in the workings of the Wilburton Lions club by helping officers understand their position and roles in the club. Nancy enjoys being a Lion and helping her community with the different projects that are in progress. She has attended each of our other District Conventions including 3-NW & 3-SW. She has represented Lions well throughout Oklahoma and has served alongside her husband, PCC Neal Wood, assisting with leadership activities.
In 2019, Nancy received a Certificate of Appreciation and the International President’s Award from International President Gudrun
Yngvadottir. And in 2023, she received a Certificate of Appreciation from International President Brian Sheehan. She was awarded a Melvin Jones Fellowship at the 2024 Oklahoma State Convention. Nancy is married to PCC Neal Wood. They have been married for 52
years and have two children, Trevor and Wendy; and three grandchildren, Caden, Carter, and Baylee. Nancy is a retired Dialysis Registered Nurse.

Mid-winter Convention: The Midwinter Convention will be in Okmulgee, Ok on March 14, 2026, at the First Baptist Church 311 W 5th, street in Okmulgee. Please plan on coming to celebrate the work of Lions in Oklahoma East.
District Lion of the Year Guidelines for selection of the District Lion of the Year shall be: Must be an active member in good standing. Must be nominated by his/her club or zone chair. Must have performed outstanding service beyond the club level during the current year. Nominations for District Lion of the Year must be received by the District Governor 45 days prior to the State Convention. All nominations should include a photo of the individual member nominated. Past District Lion of the Year Winners may not be selected again. A Lion who moves into the district and has received the award in another district may be eligible in District 3-SW. This recipient must be a Lion in good standing, from a club of good standing with district, state, and International.
